AQUAPLANE a 1965 Vintage Marblehead yacht designed by F.G.Draper

11.08.2026This is the second outing with my vintage Marblehead yacht from 1965 designed by F.G.Draper. Originally "vane" controlled, now converted to radio controlled. The first attempt was dreary as the rudder was ineffectual and the mast and sail trim were miles out. I temporarily extended the rudder with some litho plate and what an improvement! During this session I fiddled with main and jib shape and trim and she sort of got going in the gusts. Most tacks were so slow and draggy but maybe that's because she like going straight. Sailed with a DF95 and to be honest the DF was quicker. The boat looks very "bow down" so will investigate moving the keel weight aft.
