Game Arts created some of the Sega CD's best games. With this one, they also gave it some of its most impressive graphics.

Episode Notes:
1. Captured on the Mega SG/Mega SD.
2. The PS2 game Silpheed The Lost Planet is a direct sequel to this.
3. There was a Xbox 360 release called Project Sylpheed that was intended to be a spiritual successor.
4. The original PC-8801 version is quite different from this in regards to backgrounds and cinematics. It really does make the two seem like very different games.
5. The school project I spoke about also used Virtua Racing, Star Fox, and Crash N Burn as examples of 3D engines and how they would impact gaming. My extensive focus on polygons and how they allowed new types of gameplay earned me an A.
6. To my utter disgust, not many games used FMV the way Silpheed did. While there were other FMV based shooters, they often were little more than reticles shooting at crappy looking sprites. It's easy to say the gameplay of Silpheed was uninspired, but at least it gave you real mechanics to work with.
7. If you find yourself getting crushed, there is a stage practice cheat to help you out. I certainly needed it for the gameplay capture of this episode.
