IGN's Matt Purslow on how the platform's future has never looked bleaker: Playstation 6 selling points All major exclusivity deals are gone Costs over $1,000 Digital only With a Metacritic average of 77, Marvel's Wolverine is now the lowest-scored AAA single-player PlayStation-developed game since Days Gone in 2019. EXCLUSIVE: According to reports, #Wolverine flopping is a huge wakeup call for #PlayStation. "Sony spent almost 400 million on Wolverine and after Marvel gets their 30% there's not much meat on the bone. Don't expect another Wolverine, maybe not even X-Men." Forbes reports Kojima has lost access to Decima Engine (Death Stranding 1/2) and Sony Columbia Pictures Studio (filming/mo-cap) after the Physint PlayStation split. Bloomberg reported that CONCORD was the breaking point for Sony in terms of taking risks with investments as they paid $200m on a project that became one of the biggest disasters in gaming🚀 I’m actually quite surprised. The fact that real human beings, who are supposedly professionals in the medium look at this garbage and thought this is something worth shelling out $200m alone is a problem in and of itself, and those are the people that need to be fired, rather than the studio or anyone else. It’s the same issue as Highguard, and the way one of their devs came here to tell their story or how industry figures reassured them that they cracked the code in making a successful live service, and that they’re on the right track, or hit the jackpot with a guaranteed success, only for the game to last less than a month before being shut down for good. This'll no doubt greatly impact production, costs and possibly scope of design/perfomance. Thinking about all the money spent on The Last of Us Online, Concord, Bluepoint, and buying Bungie could’ve gone to funding Kojima’s Physint. People can put the blame on Death Stranding 2 not making tons of money, but the reality is Sony has been burning infinitely more money Some online takes are increasingly divorced from reality. Take this article from IGN, with the line “The PS5 has been something of a disaster generation for Sony”. In reality, it’s been their most profitable by far.
