When a Defining Chapter Closes, Doctor Moms Begin Again

The shoes by the back door started disappearing. First, my 19-year-old son left for his first apartment in Colorado. Then, just days later, my 17-year-old daughter left for college. And suddenly, I came home to something I had never experienced before: an empty house. In this episode of Inspired Mom MDs, I’m sharing the emotional whiplash of sending both of my kids into their next chapters almost at the same time. I wanted to give my daughter a full send-off, not whatever energy I had left after everything else. But this episode isn't just about my kids leaving home. Because eventually, life asks all of us a version of the same question: “Who am I now?” Maybe it's your children growing up. Maybe it's a career change, a shift in your marriage, or realizing you're no longer needed in the same way you once were. So what do you do when the life you've been building suddenly has more space? I talk honestly about resisting the urge to immediately fill that space with more work or another obligation. Instead, I'm learning to let myself grieve, sit with the uncertainty, and get curious about what comes next. Because I'm not starting over. And neither are you.
