Painting The Shadows | I Tried This Concept and IT WORKS! | realism in oil painting

In this video, I’m painting a familiar stream and camping spot in oil, focusing on one of the most important parts of the painting which I just recently learned, the shadows. Rather than simply copying everything I see in the reference, I’ll walk you through my thought process as I simplify the scene, establish the main factors that effect or influence the colors within those shadow masses. I’ll also talk about how I approach the values, colors, and relationships within the shadows—and how those decisions can greatly affect the overall feeling of a landscape painting.
