Whether you try them before or after work, these hikes are a great way to start, or end, your day and will still leave you enough time to meet life's other demands. Both of these desert trails are located just southwest of Tucson, on the eastern edge of Tucson Mountain Park. As a bonus, both hikes are totally free! The park does not charge admission or user fees, and free parking was available at both trailheads. Each trail offers some worthwhile views; however, both are rocky and offer limited shade. We would recommend choosing appropriate footwear and bringing plenty of water for the conditions. Of the two options, those seeking solitude will likely have better luck on the Hidden Canyon - Bowen Trail Loop. When we visited, it was definitely less crowded than some of the other southern Arizona hikes we tried. We would recommend the Starr Pass Trailhead for a point to kick off your desert sunset hikes.
