In this performance, the melody is beautifully interpreted on the Tro Sao (ទ្រសោ) by Mr. Men Pheakdey, music teacher and musician at Cultural Experiences Cambodia (CEC). The Tro Sao is a traditional Cambodian two-string bowed instrument with a distinctive and expressive voice. It is part of Cambodia’s rich family of traditional tro fiddles and has been passed down through generations of Khmer musicians. A Performance Dedicated to Two Great Masters This performance is dedicated to the memory of two respected masters who played important roles in preserving and transmitting Cambodia’s traditional musical heritage: Master Mann Men (ម៉ាន់ ម៉ែន) — Mr. Men Pheakdey’s father and teacher and a distinguished master associated with Cambodian Living Arts. Through his lifelong dedication to traditional Khmer music, he helped preserve and pass on musical knowledge to younger generations. Master Sok Duch (ព្រឹទ្ធាចារ្យ កោសល្យតន្ត្រីវិជ្ជាធរ សុខ ឌុច) — one of Cambodia’s respected music masters and Mr. Men Pheakdey’s Ksae Muoy teacher. He also worked in connection with Cambodian Living Arts and contributed to the teaching and transmission of Cambodia’s traditional performing arts.
