How to use a Chop Box For Dry Pack, Secrets of a 41 Year Tile Guy

Dry Pack Mortar, also known as Deck Mud is the mortar used to mud float your shower floor. What makes it a little tricky to mix, is that it can't be too wet or too dry. The right consistency will make pitching your shower floor go alot smoother. In this video, my friend Ronnie Tompkins, a 41 year tile guy, shares his best method for making dry pack mortar. I used to use a chop box for mixing mortar, especially when we had to combine sand, cement, and sometimes lime. Ever since manufacturers started making pre-mixed mortar bags, I switched to mixing in a bucket, with an electric mixer. Mixing in a bucket works great for small batches, but for larger batches, I'm glad Ronnie reconnected me with the beauty of mixing in a chop box.
