I caught a bass on my homemade bait on just the second cast! After months of designing, building, and testing my own fishing lure, I finally put it to the test at Apache Lake, Arizona. When the tournament bass fishing season slowed down, I decided to pursue a lifelong goal: creating a bait that addressed some of the shortcomings I had experienced with other great lures over the years. I knew it would be a challenge, but I jumped in with both feet. What I didn’t realize was just how many new skills I would need to learn along the way. Fast forward to this morning we knew Apache would be a good test for the bait. With water ranging from shallow cover to depths of 30 feet and beyond, it was the perfect proving ground for my custom bait. The only question was whether it could fool some bass. On just the second cast, I got my answer as the first fish made its way onto the deck of my boat. It was a surreal moment and one of the most memorable catches I’ve had in years!
