Peatlands explained: How peatlands protect our climate

Climate guardians under threat: Peatlands contain twice as much carbon as the total biomass of all the forests on earth. Our explanatory film shows how they do it and what we need to do to make them help us even more. To achieve our climate goals, we need peatlands. The rewetting of peatlands reduces greenhouse gases and captures CO2. Therefore we need the productive and agricultural use of wet and waterlogged peatlands, called paludiculture. With this form of use of wet soils, peat mosses, for example, can be grown as a horticultural substrate in raised bogs, and reeds for building or packaging materials can be grown on fens.
