Grant me the wisdom to know I owe the difference Amen I put the pedal to the metal, but I might as well cut the break line I was buzzing around with a stomach ache taking its sweet time And from 6 to 8, we’ll be playing all night We’re on a twelve-step program, one two-step at a time Grant me the serenity to pay for this in change And the courage to give with what I can Goddamn! Grant me the wisdom to know I owe the difference Amen The sun set swollen like the Devil’s nose blowing his brains out It was dripping off the sky filling up a cup I had left out So I sat on the porch just to watch that sunset rain down Then I crossed my chest and I laid my head on the ground I woke up today with a head like a swarm of mosquitoes They were dropping like flies getting stuck drunk in stale mojitos And everyone I know thinks I’m asleep behind the wheel But a friend behind the bar is a mighty fine deal Grant me the serenity to pay for this in change And the courage to give with what I can Goddamn! Grant me the wisdom to know I owe the difference Amen
