Oslo doesn’t quite feel like the Norway most people imagine, and after spending several days exploring the city, I started to understand why. In this Oslo travel guide, we explore some of the best things to see, eat and experience in Norway’s capital, from the Oslo Opera House and Munch Museum to Karl Johan, the Royal Palace and Akershus Fortress. But we also wanted to see a different side of Oslo: trying traditional Norwegian food, exploring Grünerløkka, seeing the city’s famous fjord saunas and learning about some of the traditions we noticed during our trip. We also happened to be in Oslo on 17 May, Norway’s Constitution Day, completely by accident, so we got to experience one of the biggest celebrations in the country, including the famous children’s parade. 📍 In this video: 00:00 Intro 00:50 Oslo Opera House 03:17 Munch museum 04:15 Karl Johans gate 05:37 Palace 07:30 Akershus Fortress 09:08 Public transportation 10:56 Food market 13:44 Waffle 15:49 Grünerløkka 16:52 Saunas 18:10 Islands 19:16 Russ 20:11 Football game 22:39 Constitution Day, 25:39 Final Thoughts If you’re planning a trip to Oslo, I hope this gives you both practical ideas for your itinerary and a better sense of what the city actually feels like.
