I was thinking to myself about what an in-universe version of the discrepancy between the fanon and canon AAI2 names would be, and decided that this is the funniest way possible to explain my vision. … This would have come out like a week earlier if CapCut wasn’t dead set on making half its best features premium without telling me. Well jokes on both you and me, CapCut, because I’ve found a way around your payments by using only the most basic of basic functions! With only mild suffering on my side! I really like drawing these guys. The Ace Attorney style is really fun to take inspiration from since it’s got such a wide variety of facial expressions and character designs especially for its girls. Like Athena! I adore her, she’s an orange cat in human form. My biggest struggle is definitely with Apollo though because It’s So So Hard to make him look his actual age of early to mid 20s. I always find my attempts to depict him metronoming between 12 year old lost at supermarket, and divorced dad approaching a midlife crisis. Is he just this franchise’s version of Chilchuck? idk. On more serious note, I’d like to add that the joke I’m trying to make here isn’t to poke fun at the debate fans have over the new vs old names. No, I’m just in shambles over the fact that this even happened in the first place given that there’s over 10 years worth of content tied to fanon names that are now replaced by what are essentially canon names with the same vibes but a little to the left. Truly, a comedy of errors perfectly befitting the Ace Attorney realm. Personally, I like most of the new names, and I try to stick to them as much as humanly possible (since that’s what you’d do if someone irl changes their name!) but I can understand if it’s a bit jarring for some people since absolutely no one expected a remake of a decade old Japan exclusive game this year. And if you’re still a bit uncertain of playing the AAI collection, let me tell you - Fendershields is my motivation. They localizers took out pretty much all the things that made him questionable in the ftl and he’s now the epitome of Cool Uncle. He is perfect. Btw, if you’re wondering about the two people at the end - those are my future designs for Kay and Stacey! I made a fully rendered version of them on my tumblr, but all you need to know is that I wanted Kay to look even cooler and Stacey to resemble Ex*l physically, but more like Verity/Fran in style.
