➡️ What happens when you return to a mountain that once tested your physical strength, confidence, and mindset—but this time, you're not there to climb it?
In this episode of RenewHer After 50, Genell Lemley returns to 29029 one year after completing the challenge at Whistler, British Columbia, to volunteer at the summit aid station in Steamboat, Colorado—and discovers a completely different perspective on resilience, community, perseverance, and what's still possible.
A year earlier, Genell had climbed Whistler eight times, gaining 31,200 feet of elevation over 31.2 miles in about 35½ hours, with only 30 minutes of sleep. The experience challenged not only her body, but also her confidence and the stories she had been carrying about what she could do.
One year later, she was on the other side of the experience.
Instead of climbing, Genell and her husband volunteered at the summit, handing out food and water, encouraging participants, and cheering them on. Being there allowed her to recognize familiar moments—the exhaustion, uncertainty, nausea, determination, and emotional highs and lows—because she had lived them herself.
And from that new perspective came some powerful lessons about navigating your own mountain in life.

KEY TAKEAWAY
You don't have to see the whole mountain. Just take the next step.
The summit matters. But the work matters, too. The people matter. The encouragement matters. And what you discover about yourself along the way may matter more than reaching someone else's definition of success.
