SITUATION The Syrian regime has conducted another chemical weapons attack against civilians, prompting a U.S. military response. Intelligence has identified the Barzah Scientific Research Center near Damascus as a key component of Syria’s chemical weapons research and development infrastructure. Syrian forces maintain a dense but attrited IADS network around Damascus, including long-, medium-, and short-range surface-to-air missile systems. Syrian air defenses are assessed to be at heightened readiness, though the disposition and activation state of individual batteries remain uncertain. U.S. Navy and Air Force assets have been positioned throughout the region and are prepared to conduct a coordinated precision strike at first light.
