Goodfellas Never Showed What Happened During the Lufthansa Purge

On December 11, 1978, six gunmen hit Building 261 at JFK Airport, stealing $5.8 million in the largest cash robbery in U.S. history. While Goodfellas glamorized the score, the reality was a brutal "purge" orchestrated by the man who planned it: Jimmy "The Gent" Burke. To keep the money and silence witnesses, Burke systematically murdered his own crew. Within six months, nine people were dead—found in car crushers, trash heaps, and shallow graves across New York. #TrueCrime #Mafia #Goodfellas
