Can I beat Minecraft without a CORE mechanic?

I tried to beat Minecraft for the first time in the worst way possible. By not allowing myself to craft anything! No crafting table, no villager workstations, NOTHING! The only way in which I could get some good gear was through looting or trading with villagers. Was I able to beat the game with these restrictions while also having never finished it before?
