The Reverence of Tending & the Playfulness That Keeps It Alive | 2 Tz’i

What happens when tending becomes a form of listening? Today, on 2 Tz’i, I begin in the medicine wheel, honoring the Guardian Protectors of the Cardinal Directions: East, South, West, North, Upper, Lower, and Middle Earth. Then I move into the simple, tactile work of tending dried herbs and flowers. I separate marigold blooms from the silica gel crystals that helped preserve their shape and color. I sort. I prune. I notice. And somewhere along the way, a little mandala appears in the deadheading basket. I didn’t create it intentionally. I simply allowed the flowers to surprise me. Tending is a form of listening. Preservation is a form of honoring. Working with plants becomes relationship when we slow enough to notice. And sometimes, joy invites us to play. There is wisdom in tending, and wisdom in delight. They were always the same gesture, just wearing different clothes. Today, I’m remembering that sacred relationship does not require solemnity. Reverence has room for laughter, curiosity, beauty, and the unexpected. Sometimes joy simply shows up in a basket, in marigold gold, asking nothing of us but our playful attention.
