All routes for entering Europe illegally are being closed off. The European Union’s Commissioner for Migration has stated that, although the numbers have decreased compared to the past, a significant number of people from Bangladesh are still attempting to reach Europe through illegal channels. He noted that under the new migration policy, those caught entering illegally will face expedited repatriation. He further mentioned that the chances for Bangladeshis to be granted asylum anywhere in Europe are extremely low—less than 3 percent. Consequently, this EU policymaker advises Bangladeshis to pursue legal pathways to Europe by acquiring the necessary professional skills.
