Northeast New Mexico still records remarkable public numbers: a $34,300 median home value in Vaughn and county agricultural land-and-building averages as low as $379 per acre. Those are 2020–2024 ACS and 2022 USDA benchmarks, not promises about current listings.
This countdown visits twelve real communities from Las Vegas to Tucumcari. We examine population, housing vacancy, rent, domestic-well rules, hospitals, broadband, climate and the long drives that make cheap property complicated.
Sources include the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2025 Population Estimates and 2020–2024 ACS, USDA NASS’s 2022 Census of Agriculture, NOAA 1991–2020 climate normals, the New Mexico Office of the State Engineer, FCC broadband records, and hospital websites. Checked September 2026.
