Twinkie Clark Carried the Clark Sisters — But Who Carried Twinkie?

Twinkie Clark carried The Clark Sisters as their songwriter, arranger, producer, and organist, but who carried Twinkie? In this documentary-style deep dive, we uncover how Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, the legendary Church of God in Christ choir director, trained her daughter from infancy at the piano, took her on the road at thirteen to teach choirs three-part harmony, and then did something rare: she handed over creative control of the group to Twinkie. You'll learn about Twinkie Clark's early life in Detroit, the famous early-morning rehearsals, the Stevie Wonder inspiration behind "You Brought the Sunshine," her reputation as the Queen of the B3 Hammond Organ, and how her mother's classical training shaped the COGIC shout sound that changed gospel music forever. We also explore Mattie Moss Clark's pioneering career, the Southwest Michigan State Choir, and the legacy that lives on through the 2023 tribute album Power: A Tribute to Twinkie Clark.
