Day 5: You Can’t Rebuild While You Are Burdened... Let it Go! [Nehemiah 5] #nehemiahalliance

Day 5 takes us inside the walls, where the people faced a burden from their own community. Families were hungry. Some had mortgaged their fields and homes to buy grain or pay the king’s taxes. Others had been forced to sell their children into servitude. The work of rebuilding continued, but their own brethren were making it harder to survive. Nehemiah did not tell the hurting to endure it quietly. He confronted the nobles and officials, called them to stop charging interest, and demanded that they return what they had taken, holding himself to the same standard. Have you ever been the dependable one—the woman everyone calls when they need help—while quietly wondering who would notice if you needed help? Today’s reading of Nehemiah 5 invites us to look at the burdens people carry behind the scenes. As you listen, consider this: Is there a burden you need to speak honestly about? Is there someone you could give breathing room to this week? And are you making decisions out of fear that there won’t be enough—or trusting God enough to do what’s right with what’s in your hands?
