Episode 869 The pensioners remain determined to continue their sit-in. Ray (Neville Buswell) offers to contribute in exchange for the washbasin, but Ena (Violet Carson) declines. Lillian (Rhoda Lewis) offers to give Hilda (Jean Alexander) money in exchange for details about Elsie (Pat Phoenix). Elsie is still angry with Dave (Reginald Marsh) for not challenging the divorce. Val (Anne Reid) is shocked by the situation Elsie finds herself in. Emily (Eileen Derbyshire) goes to the OAP clubhouse and is let in by Ena. Stan (Bernard Youens) fears the trouble Lillian might cause but Hilda insists they need the money. Hilda discovers from Ray that Stan must still pay tax on the window cleaning business, even though it is in her name. Ken (Bill Roache) advises Val to stay out of Elsie’s situation. Mr. Ironfield (Anthony Dutton) from the council arrives to settle the dispute over the clubhouse but feels uneasy after his past clashes with Ena. Hilda sells Stan’s round to Ray, who agrees to take on the outstanding debts. Hilda tells Lillian she prefers not to get involved with a divorce case. Emily joins the sit-in when the council refuses to budge. Mr. Ironfield warns of legal action if the group continue to cause an obstruction. Stan is angry that Hilda included him in the sale and that Ray is now his boss. Maggie (Irene Sutcliffe) warns Dave that Elsie might accept all charges, leaving him to foot the bill for the legal costs.
