What Israel Just Found in the Pool of Siloam Confirms What the Bible Said

A major archaeological discovery at Jerusalem’s ancient Pool of Siloam is shedding new light on the biblical history of the City of David. In 2026, archaeologists excavating the Siloam Pool uncovered a monumental dam dating to approximately 805–795 BCE, during the reigns of Judah’s kings Joash or Amaziah. The structure was built roughly 2,800 years ago and represents one of the largest ancient water-management structures discovered in Israel. Researchers believe it was designed to manage water and flooding in ancient Jerusalem. The discovery is especially significant because the Pool of Siloam is directly connected to Jerusalem’s biblical water system. The Bible describes King Hezekiah’s construction of the Pool and its associated waterworks, while the Siloam Tunnel connected the Gihon Spring with the pool. The newly studied remains provide additional archaeological evidence for the scale and sophistication of Jerusalem’s ancient water infrastructure. The Pool of Siloam also has a direct connection to the New Testament. In John 9, Jesus tells a man born blind to wash in the Pool of Siloam. Archaeologists identified the large Second Temple-period pool in 2004, and ongoing excavations are now revealing much more of the surrounding ancient water system. But the new discovery needs to be understood carefully. Archaeology cannot “prove” every biblical event, yet these excavations are providing remarkable physical evidence for the ancient Jerusalem described in biblical texts.
