So in this one, we are gonna dive deep into the making, the origin, and the very DNA of one of the most outrageous, controversial, and glorious villains in pop culture history. Of course, I am talking about Serpentor — The Cobra Emperor himself. If you know your G.I. Joe lore, you know that the Cobra Commander almost always ruled over Cobra, however, by 1986, Hasbro wanted a new supreme leader of Cobra to push action figures. But the real mind behind Serpentor’s birth belonged to people like writers Buzz Dixon and Larry Hama who wrote for Sunbow cartoons and the Marvel comics, respectively. These are the guys who turned a corporate mandate into animated and comic book magic. Dixon even envisioned Serpentor having an arrogant, highly cultured personality, which was a huge upgrade from Cobra Commander, who did not have that sort of sophistication.
