Only three pairs of glasses with this hinge were sold in Chicago. One belonged to Nathan Leopold. But the glasses alone did not prove murder. In 1924, police found eyeglasses with a distinctive patented hinge near the body of 14-year-old Bobby Franks. The Chicago optician Almer Coe had sold only three such pairs, and one belonged to Leopold, who said he lost them while bird watching. Investigators connected the case through other evidence, including the ransom note's typewriter, and Leopold and Richard Loeb confessed. Clarence Darrow had them plead guilty, and the judge sentenced each to life plus 99 years. This video remembers Bobby Franks and is told respectfully, using only documented facts.
