Lothar Fuchs – Keep the Watch (Extended Monumental 10-Minuten XXL-Version) | Dark Gothic-Rock Epos

Text: [Intro] The harbor bell has lost its tongue, The tide keeps count of every son. I fold your letter, salt-stained, worn, And face the sea that took you north. [Verse 1] The watch is cold, the rope is wet, Your name is one I can't forget. The gulls wheel low above the foam; I keep your place beside my own. [Pre-Chorus] We hauled the dawn through sleet and spray, We swore we'd all come home one day. Now every mast bends in the gale, And still I hear you in the sail. [Chorus] Ho, carry us over the black water, Hold fast, though the night runs deep. For every lost and wandering brother, We keep the watch; we do not sleep. Ho, carry us home through the weather, Past rocks where the white waves climb. If grief is the weight we bear together, Then bear it with me, one more time. [Verse 2] Your coat still hangs beside the door, The sleeve you patched in years before. I set one cup against the wall; The room grows quiet after all. [Pre-Chorus] The shore lamps blur, the ropes draw tight, Our hands are split from holding fast. We lift our faces to the storm; The ones we love are never past. [Dynamic Drop] [Organ and strings, restrained] [Spoken Prayer] Keep the names we cannot call back. Keep a place for the ones still out there. Give our hands the strength to hold on, and our hearts the courage to return. [Final Chorus] Ho, carry us over the black water, Now dawn breaks open the deep. For every lost and wandering brother, We keep the watch; our vows we keep. Ho, carry us home through the weather, Let every far shore hear our cry. The sea may take, but cannot sever The bond that outlives wave and sky. [Choir-Backed Finale] Hold fast, hold fast, we are not alone. Hold fast, hold fast, we'll carry you home. [Outro] The harbor bell remembers now; We lower our heads, then lift our vow. Music, Lyrics, Arrangement & Vision by Lothar Fuchs.
