GOA Work | Muh Shoou Zhujing

Located in Zhujing Town, Jinshan District, Shanghai, Muh Shoou Zhujing is set alongside wetlands and flower fields, within a landscape that retains the natural fabric of a traditional Jiangnan water town. Guided by the vision of “rediscovering the hidden realm of the ancestral homeland,” GOA undertook the architectural design and project management of the resort hotel, which comprises 65 villa-style suites. The design draws inspiration from traditional dwellings in the western suburbs of Shanghai, reinterpreting the low eaves, deep verandas, and courtyard spaces characteristic of Jiangnan vernacular architecture, including the luoqiang wu (gable-roofed house) and jiaojuan fang (enclosed courtyard dwelling) types. Set among groves and springs, the suites, each accompanied by a private tea pavilion, are nestled within a landscape of meandering waterways and metasequoia groves, creating an immersive retreat reminiscent of a forested isle in a watery realm.
