Every shot from my round at Axe Cliff Golf Club, Seaton, Devon on 2nd April 2026. 👉 Many more every shot golf vlogs here    • 18 Hole, Every Shot Golf Round Vlogs   After a long winter not playing I was keen to get out and start visiting new courses for 2026. With a good weather forecast and a very, very early alarm, I set off down to Devon to check out Axe Cliff Golf Club. Founded back in 1894 originally as a 9 hole course, the club can lay claim and thanks to two visits by James Braid in designing and extending the course to a full 18. With its clifftop location and naturally hilly terrain, it is a prime location in hosting a stunning course and it certainly doesn't disappoint. Being located on the chalk cliffs, the course drains well and provides good year round playing conditions. The first is a good indication of what to expect for the first half dozen holes. An uphill par 4, quite short, but a bunker placed close to the green makes you plan your strategy. The next 5 all involve blind tee shots, not everyone's cup of tea, but the marker poles are accurate and also with helpful description boards on each tee, they assist you in building confidence for each shot. These holes all change their elevation and a few are a tough start to your round. If the golf isn't warmed up at this point, you can always console yourself with the views back over Lyme Bay and towards Seaton which are stunning. The views are worth the green fees alone and these are great value too. Things change as you head for the 7th, a super par 3 over a valley that contains the first hole. After getting up to the green, things level out a little with a several holes on the saddle of the cliff, all the while getting closer to the cliff edge which you run alongside for at the 15th and 16th. It was a little breezy when I played but a brief lull with the wind as I was walking down the 15th led to a magical moment, taking in the views, all the way round the coast from Torquay down to Portland, all while playing some fabulous holes on a super course. The quirky 16th follows with a blind tee shot that you shouldn't hit too far. Your approach shot requires you to drop a short iron onto the green many feet below with a sharp drop behind the green leading to a well used drop zone for errant shots. Quite unique! The tricky blind 17th follows and your round finishes with the spectacular par 3 18th where hitting the green is almost a necessity as you again hit over the valley containing the first. hole. A great course with a terrific variety of holes. This was a wonderful way to start off the year and with great value green fees, assisted by the fact I played with a promotional bank holiday rate, it offers brilliant value too.
