Yet Christ directs their attention away from the timing of the kingdom to its nature: His kingdom advances through the power of the Holy Spirit working in the faithful witness of His people and the proclamation of the gospel. Christ’s ascension further reveals the certainty of His present reign. It was not merely His departure from earth, but His royal enthronement at the Father’s right hand. Therefore, the church is called neither to passivity nor pessimism. Every believer united to Christ is called to bear faithful witness, trusting that the King now reigns and that His kingdom will advance until His final victory is fully revealed.
