In 1945, a Dutch painter was arrested for selling a national treasure to Hermann Göring. To save his life, he had to prove the "Vermeer" was his own fake — by painting another one in front of witnesses.
This is the story of Han van Meegeren: the critics' "copier" who fooled Europe's top art expert, a national museum and the Nazi elite, and the plastic that finally gave him away.
