DCRail 56103 + 47715 and HOME FLEET star at the South Devon Railway AUTUMN DIESEL GALA! | 08.11.2025

As we fast approach the end of the year, and the majority of heritage railways are now closing and ending their season until their Christmas events commence, the South Devon Railway provided some interest in the region with the return of their Autumn Diesel Gala this weekend! Now upgraded to a two day event after last years 1 day success    • DCRail 60029 'BEN NEVIS' + HOME FLEET star...   topping the bill this year, and bringing their unmistakeable rumble to Devon, were x2 Class 56s visiting from DC rail who once again supported this event, with 47715 'Rail Engineering Solutions / Quality Assured' operated by Rail Engineering Solutions also visiting from the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway and wearing it's RES/Virgin Kit-Kat livery. These three locomotives arrived via the mainline connection on Friday evening, starring alongside the home diesel fleet. Plenty of Sulzer action came in the form of Class 33 33002 ’Sea King’ and Class 25 25262, supported by Class 04 shunters D2246 and D2271. The day also gave the South Devon an opportunity to try out their recently acquired WCRC Mk1’s which will be used on the Polar Express trains in December. The day was full of action and blessed with some beautiful Autumnal lighting conditions, and we follow the mornings movements at Buckfastleigh and Staverton, along the River Dart and around Bishops Bridge filming services before Class 56 56103 came out to play, and later take a ride up to Totnes finishing with the departure of the double headed 04s bringing to an end a cracking first day of the gala!
