The temperature is a crisp 5°C (41°F), and the road ahead follows the famous SP41, a scenic provincial route that connects the hills above Lake Como with the Brianza countryside. Surrounded by forests and alpine silence, Magreglio sits near the legendary climb of the Ghisallo, embraced by the foothills of the Grigna range. Descending gently, the drive passes through Barni and Lasnigo, small stone-built villages with narrow streets and traditional Lombard architecture. The road then reaches Asso, a historic town nestled in the Valassina valley, where mountain scenery begins to open toward rolling hills. At 15:45, the route approaches the Lambro, one of Lombardy’s important rivers. Nearby lies the beautiful Cascata della Vallategna, a 30-meter waterfall hidden between rock walls at the border of Asso and Canzo. In winter, the flowing water and mist create a dramatic atmosphere, especially after rainfall. Continuing along SP40, the drive crosses Castelmarte before reaching Ponte Lambro, where the landscape transitions from alpine valley to the greener hills of Brianza. Soon after comes Erba, one of the main towns of the area, located at the foot of the Monte Bollettone and surrounded by pre-Alpine peaks. The journey continues on SP37 toward Albavilla and Albese con Cassano, quiet residential towns with views back toward the mountains. Joining SP342, the road passes Orsenigo and Alzate Brianza, where gentle hills replace steep slopes and the scenery becomes more open and rural. Further south, the drive moves through Lambrugo, Nibionno, Bulciago, and Barzago. These towns sit in the heart of Brianza, known for its blend of countryside charm and proximity to Milan. The road is smoother and wider here, framed by fields, small industrial areas, and distant Alpine silhouettes. Passing Bevera di Sirtori, the final stretch leads to La Valletta Brianza, a peaceful municipality formed by the merger of Perego and Rovagnate. The elevation is lower than the starting point in Magreglio, and the mountain landscape has gradually transformed into rolling hills typical of the Brianza region. This drive beautifully captures the transition from the pre-Alpine mountains near Lake Como to the softer terrain of southern Lombardy. From forested slopes and waterfalls to river valleys and rural towns, the route offers a diverse winter atmosphere, showcasing another authentic and lesser-known side of northern Italy beyond the famous lakefront roads. #Italy #WinterDrive #ScenicDrive #LakeComo #Lombardy #ItalianRoads #MountainDrive #Brianza #RoadTrip #drivingtour #solo_traveler_7o
