Custom Pool & Outdoor Living Tour | Design, Materials & Safety Features

I’m excited to share a closer look at the custom pool and outdoor living project we built for our family, and I’m joined by Rick Donoghue, CEO of BMR Pool and Patio, to talk through some of the decisions that went into it. One of my favorite parts of this project was being able to see the designs in 2D and 3D before making changes. BMR also did a great job matching the stone, ceiling stain, columns, and other details to tie everything back into the existing house. We talk about some of the material choices I made, including the glass tile that ended up being a little more than I originally planned to spend, but was absolutely worth it to me once I saw the finished look. Rick also explains why we went with pavers instead of concrete and how Texas soil can affect outdoor surfaces over time. We also added artificial turf between some of the pavers and around the play area to break up all of the hardscape and keep some green in the space year-round. And probably the biggest priority throughout the entire project was safety. We talk about visibility in the pool, ribbon tile on the steps, gates and fencing, diving pool templates, door alarms, and some of the safety practices BMR brings to each project. I really enjoyed this conversation with Rick and getting to look back at everything that went into creating this space.
