From Delhi to Dhaka to Islamabad, political protests and disputes over democratic accountability are putting South Asia’s political fault lines under the spotlight. A Bangladesh-based political group has expressed solidarity with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protests in Delhi against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Meanwhile, Pakistan is facing another major political confrontation, with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march demanding the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan amid a fresh constitutional and security crisis. In this special report on Amber Zaidi Official, we investigate the cross-border political debate, the controversy over India’s electoral rolls, and the questions these developments raise about sovereignty, democratic institutions and regional stability. INDIA: THE CJP PROTEST AND VOTER LIST CONTROVERSY The CJP-led demonstrations have demanded accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Protesters have questioned voter deletions, while the Election Commission’s position is that entries may be removed for reasons including deaths, relocation and unverifiable records. Delhi Police detained hundreds of protesters during the demonstrations. A court subsequently ordered the release of CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and two other leaders after their detention. BANGLADESH: WHY HAS THE PROTEST CROSSED BORDERS? Bangladesh’s National Citizen Party convener Nahid Islam has expressed solidarity with the Delhi protesters, raising questions about electoral accountability, civil liberties and political cooperation across South Asia. What does this public support mean? Is it simply solidarity between political movements, or does it reflect a wider regional debate over democratic institutions? The evidence matters, and the distinction between a political group’s position and the position of an entire country must remain clear. PAKISTAN: ANOTHER POLITICAL FLASHPOINT Pakistan’s PTI-led march has intensified the confrontation between Imran Khan’s supporters and the federal government. On October 11, 2026, Pakistan also moved to impose emergency rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where PTI leads the provincial government. The federal authorities cited security concerns; PTI criticised the move. THE BIG QUESTIONS Who should decide whether voter-list deletions are justified, and how can the process be independently verified? What responsibility does the Election Commission have to explain disputed electoral-roll revisions? Where is the line between legitimate protest, political mobilisation and disruption of public life? Why are political groups across South Asia increasingly speaking in support of movements beyond their borders? Are the developments in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan connected by evidence—or are they separate political crises unfolding at the same time? What do these events mean for India’s democratic institutions, regional diplomacy and national interests? THE CLOSING QUESTION South Asia is witnessing intense political contestation, but simultaneous protests do not automatically prove a coordinated regional campaign. The real test is evidence: who is organising, what are their stated demands, how are institutions responding, and what do independent records establish?
