“You’re DRUNK on Nolan!” — ‘The Odyssey’ Debate

Christopher Nolan takes on one of the oldest stories ever told, but this review becomes just as much about Nolan himself as it does about 'The Odyssey'. One of us is drawn in by the scale, mythology, technical ambition and the idea that the film reflects Nolan’s own obsession with time, sacrifice and filmmaking. The other sees a visually impressive but emotionally distant experience, with stiff dialogue, thin characterisation and spectacle regularly overpowering the story. We debate the performances, the film’s lack of humour, its horror influences, the standout Cyclops and witch sequences, and how two people can watch the same Nolan film and come away seeing something completely different.
