Duduk Mournful Dark Techno — Armenian Mix in C Minor | 1 Hour 124 BPM The duduk is cut from apricot wood and driven by a double reed almost as wide as a thumb. Its range is about an octave. That is all it gets. Traditionally a second player holds one unbroken drone underneath while the first one grieves on top. It was built for funerals and mountain villages, not for a club floor. So I put it on one. One hour, 124 BPM, C minor, instrumental from start to finish. The duduk carries the melody; a deep sub bass carries everything else. The kick is blunt and unhurried. Reverb the size of a cathedral nave, all crushed black and verdigris. Armenian folk phrasing bends against a machine pulse that refuses to bend back. Nothing resolves. It just keeps walking. This is part of an ongoing series where I take instruments built for rituals, courts and stone rooms — nyckelharpa, hurdy-gurdy, shakuhachi, glass armonica, oud — and drop them somewhere they were never meant to be. Some sound wrong immediately. The duduk sounded like it had been waiting. Good for night driving and long stretches of deep focus.
