In this video, we continue riding our Himalayans through the beautiful Zanskar Valley. The valley opens up increasingly, with wide landscapes, rivers, and high mountains all around us. We begin the climb to Penzi La, a mountain pass that makes the landscape even more rugged. At the top, we stop for a moment—the silence, the wind, and the altitude give the feeling that you are standing almost on the roof of the world. Not long after, we arrive at the Drang Drung Glacier, an enormous mass of ice nestled between the mountains. It is an impressive sight, and we take the time to take in the view. Afterward, we continue riding across Penzi La, where you can also drive off-road. The surroundings are barren, open, and beautiful. At Rangdum Gompa, we stop briefly to view the monastery. It lies in the middle of a wide plain, almost alone in the landscape. Then we descend and ride into the Suru Valley. The valley is greener, with villages and small fields along the river. A shorter route over gravel brings us to a bridge under construction. We have to carefully guide the motorcycles past the construction work — a bit of teamwork that goes well, but requires some attention. Further on, we ride through small villages where children try to give us a high five with outstretched hands as we ride past. Sometimes we encounter muddy stretches, leaving us covered in mud by the end of the day. It is all part of the experience in this valley. Eventually, we reach Kargil. Children crowd around to watch us as we park the motorcycles at the hotel. A beautiful ride, full of variety, nature, and encounters along the way. Yes Himalay did a perfect job today!
