use headphones: the 7.83 hz beat only exists between your two ears.
7.83 hz is the schumann resonance, the lowest note of the earth itself. lightning strikes the planet about 44 times every second, and each flash sends out a radio wave that gets trapped between the ground and the ionosphere and travels around the world again and again. only the waves that fit the planet survive, and the longest one vibrates 7.83 times a second.
it is far too low to hear, and this is not a recording of it. what you hear is a binaural beat tuned to it: 184.005 hz in the left ear and 191.835 hz in the right, so your brain hears the 7.83 hz difference. around it there is slow music in which every note is 7.83 hz moved up by octaves and simple ratios (the root is 7.83 × 16 = 125.28 hz), with soft bells on ten loops of different lengths, so the pattern never repeats within the hour.
what you see is calculated, not drawn: an engraved globe with the real coastlines, and radio pulses leaving the three great lightning regions of the earth (central africa, the amazon, south-east asia). each pulse circles the planet, refocuses on the opposite side and comes back, losing about 11 db per trip like the real ones do. it is slowed down about 220 times. the thin line around the globe is the ionosphere with the wave drawn in profile: its height and the size of the waves are exaggerated, not to scale.
the research on binaural beats is mixed, and the schumann resonance has no proven effect on the body, so take this as a calm, dark place to rest and fall asleep, not as a treatment.
