Like A Warning At Night The Mothers Would Whisper, Don't Walk By Her Door That Garden Of Nightshade, That Girl They Abhor I Brewed My Own Courage In Kettles Of Black And Smiled At The Village That Turned Its Wide Back They Needed A Monster To Frighten Their Young So They Carved Me From Shadow And Bit Down Their Tongue I'm The Witch They Warned You About The Cautionary Tale, The Whisper, The Doubt Come Closer, Sweet Stranger, And See For Yourself I'm The Story They Shelved On The Forbidden Shelf The Witch They Warned You About, It Is True I Gathered The Power They Buried In You Knock Thrice On My Crooked And Lantern-lit Door I'm The Witch, I'm The Witch That They Warned You Before They Burned All My Sisters For Reading The Moon For Healing, For Herbs, For A Too-clever Tune So I Took Every Curse They Had Painted Me In And Wore It Like Velvet, A Crown Made Of Sin The Truth Is I Never Once Poisoned A Well The Only Spell Working Was Fear They Could Sell But If You Insist That A Witch Is My Role I'll Give You The Magic, I'll Give You The Whole I'm The Witch They Warned You About The Cautionary Tale, The Whisper, The Doubt Come Closer, Sweet Stranger, And See For Yourself I'm The Story They Shelved On The Forbidden Shelf They Told You My Name...
