Why do humans wear clothes? Because we get cold. That's the answer almost everyone gives, and almost nobody checks it. The oldest clothes ever dug out of the ground are about 10,000 years old. But humans have been getting dressed for more than 100,000 years. So what happened to the first clothes ever worn, and what does the evidence say about why we put them on? In this video, we follow the clues: A tiny witness that has been hiding in human clothing for over 100,000 years, quietly keeping a record no museum ever could A cave on the coast of Morocco, where polished bone tools were found beside the bones of foxes, jackals, and wildcats A ship at the bottom of the world in 1832, and a canoe that drifted up beside it in the middle of a storm A cave at the southern tip of Africa, and tiny seashells with holes drilled through them about 75,000 years ago The idea that people first covered up out of shame, and what the evidence says about it The answer touches archaeology, genetics, survival, decoration, and one of the oldest human instincts there is. This video follows all of it, from the first hide wrapped around a loved one on a cold night to the coat you zipped up this morning.
