Before Mothra became the beloved "Queen of the Monsters," Toho quietly debuted its first female kaiju in the 1956 film Rodan, introducing a tragic mated pair of irradiated Pteranodons whose destructive fury ended in a heartbreaking sacrifice. Over the next several decades, the franchise would introduce an incredible array of female monsters, from terrifying mutants like the rose-hybrid Biollante and the blood-draining Skeetera, to entirely new interpretations of classic kaiju, like the pink, educational Gojirin and the hilariously tiny Fairy Mothra.
