If you're autistic - you don't have to avoid CBT.
I know - a lot of autistic people have had terrible experience with therapists using cognitive behavioral therapy. But the answer is not to avoid CBT if you're autistic.
Instead, I made this video to help you to learn the difference between a good CBT therapist and a bad CBT therapist - and determine if CBT is the right choice for your therapy goals.
In this video, I break down:
● What CBT actually is (in simple terms)
● Why CBT therapy can work for autistic people
● Why it sometimes completely misses the mark
● The difference between a helpful CBT therapist and a harmful one
● What to look for so you don’t waste time—or get hurt—in therapy
As an autistic psychologist, I’ve experienced this from both sides. My goal is to help you find support that actually fits you, not force you into a one-size-fits-all model.
👇 I’d love to hear from you: What’s your experience been with therapy? What helped—and what didn’t?
