In this video, I share key learning from a recent Bluelight webinar for chief inspector and superintendent candidates, with ideas relevant to promotion candidates at other ranks too. We explored how to make your forward-facing answers stand out using WHY → HOW → WHAT: � WHY — The hook. Show why the issue needs attention. Use relevant force-specific evidence to demonstrate that you understand the challenges facing your organisation. � HOW — The story. Develop up to three focused approaches that show how you would lead, improve things and add value. Give the board something worth listening to. � WHAT — The close. Explain the difference your leadership would make and how you would know it was working. We also look at: • Connecting welfare and wellbeing to retention, sickness and organisational performance. • Asking questions that help people recognise and build on good work. • Developing practical ideas around partnerships, community relationships and trust. • Moving beyond a shopping list of actions to demonstrate thoughtful leadership.
