#wwe #hulkhogan #brethart Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart are two of the top 10 wrestlers of all time in a lot of people’s minds. They have earned their recognition thanks to years of grinding in the WWE and WCW. With Hogan being well-known for his excellent character work, and Bret Hart being equally as known for his prowess between the ropes. However, the two squared up against each other in a one-on-one match just one time. The contest took place on September 28, 1998, live on Nitro and was a throwaway match after the NWO Wolfpac came to Bret’s aid. Bret was in the midst of a disappointing WCW run and Hogan was at the tail end of his prime by the time the two finally squared off. Coupled with the fact that this match took place on Nitro with no stakes, it literally meant nothing. Being that the two were in WWE at the same time for so many years, it is surprising to many that the two never had a strong program together. It’s baffling that WCW acquired Bret fresh off the Montreal Screwjob and never capitalized on his star power by pitting him against their biggest star in Hogan for the WCW championship. In a perfect world, the two would have had a great program in the WWF during the mid-90s, with Hogan helping to crown the next generation’s big star. And then the pair of legends would have helped carry WCW to new heights together in 1998, but that just wasn’t the case. Why did this never happen? Bret has gone on record in several interviews, straight up excusing Hulk of refusing to work with him thus halting his career. But is this story a classic instance of Hulk Hogan playing politics backstage? Or is it Vince McMahon making promises that he couldn’t deliver on? Or was Eric Bischoff just incompetent and wasn’t able to see the vision in a Hogan/Hart feud? To answer those questions, it is important to understand Hogan’s reputation for only doing what’s best for himself. There are several instances of Hogan refusing to work with or do proper business for top talents like Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, and Sting. Based on several sources, Bret and Hulk were supposed to face off at SummerSlam 1993 after Hulk came to Bret’s rescue a few months earlier at WrestleMania 9 in what is one of the worst WrestleMania moments of all time. That never happened, and it has led to Bret Hart being bitter towards Hogan for years, perhaps rightfully so. Join me on this video as I do a deep dive into how Hulk Hogan screwed Bret Hart in 1993 and later on in WCW.
