Dr. Khader Vali is an independent food and nutrition specialist, often referred to as the 'Millet Man of India.' He is a strong advocate for the consumption of millets as a means to control and prevent various lifestyle diseases. Born in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Vali holds a Master of Science degree from the Regional Institute of Education, Mysuru, and a Ph.D. in Steroids from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. He also pursued a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Environmental Science in the USA, where his research involved deactivating deadly chemical substances. He returned to India from US in 1997.
He is widely known for dedicating over 20 years to researching the benefits of millets and promoting their consumption as a healthier and sustainable alternative to modern staple grains like rice and wheat.
Siridhanya (Positive Millets): Dr. Vali has worked to revive five specific types of millets, which he collectively refers to as Siridhanya or "Positive Millets." These five millets are: Foxtail, Barnyard, Kodo, Little, and Browntop millet. He emphasizes their high fiber content and believes they help maintain the blood's homeostasis and regulate the slow release of glucose, thereby preventing and managing conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, PCOD, and other hormonal and metabolic disorders.
