If Salvation Is a Gift, Why Did Jesus Say the Way Is Narrow?

In Matthew 7:13–14, Jesus speaks about the narrow gate and the difficult road that leads to life. Yet Paul repeatedly teaches that salvation is received by grace through faith, not earned through good works. So are Jesus and Paul saying different things? In this Bible study, we carefully examine the narrow gate, the difficult road, grace, works, repentance, and what it actually means to follow Jesus. Rather than taking one verse out of context, we look at what Jesus says immediately after the narrow-gate teaching, including His warnings about false prophets, fruit, religious activity, and the words, “I never knew you.” We then compare this with Paul's teaching in Ephesians 2, Romans 3, and Titus 3 to understand the distinction between earning salvation and being changed by the salvation we receive. The goal isn't to make the question more complicated. It's to understand what Scripture is actually saying in context.
