Scientists Just Found a Hidden World Beneath the Atlantic

Deep beneath the Atlantic, scientists explored a place where the seafloor is literally being pulled apart — and found something far stranger than they expected. In the Doldrums Megatransform and Fracture Zone, an ROV descended into a landscape of enormous fractures, hydrothermal vents, and deep-sea life that looks almost alien. And beneath the seafloor itself, seawater can travel through cracks in the ocean crust before returning through vents that support entire ecosystems in total darkness. But the deeper the expedition went, the stranger the encounters became. This is a journey into one of the least familiar parts of our own planet — a place filled with environments and creatures we are still only beginning to understand.
