Ameagari no Hanaby (Steam) - Game Sample

By: Enigmatic Network A cute side-scrolling platformer about a squirrel using fireworks to stop the constant rain affecting the region. It has a linear level structure, but each stage contains a good number of power-ups and different fireworks to find or buy, so exploration is worthwhile. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t indicate whether you’ve missed anything in a level. Still, the game is quite easy on the standard difficulty, even if you skip or fail to find some upgrades, you can finish it without much trouble. Each type of firework is quite distinct. Some allow you to glide if you press the button again during a jump, and you can aim your shots. Some are very powerful and can take down bosses easily, but it’s fun to explore the variety, certain ones are clearly better suited for specific situations. After finishing the game, a “Round 2” (New Game Plus) mode is unlocked, where you keep all your upgrades, fireworks, and money. However, enemies deal double damage, and that’s basically the only change. It’s not particularly interesting, but it does allow you to buy the more expensive fireworks when you reach the final stage again. The graphics are 2D and hand-drawn, using skeletal animation. Some of the environments are quite beautiful, and the soundtrack is also pretty good. The game is very cute and family-friendly overall, but it’s quite surprising when you reach a certain level and realize why there’s a censorship option in the menu and why the game has an 18+ rating. There’s a level themed around adult toys, haha. If you look up the developer, you’ll notice they’re quite into furry content. The other games don’t seem to include elements like that, which is a bit of a shame, I actually enjoy these unexpected, bizarre moments in games.
