Scott and I head north of FL‑50 for an easy dual-sport run through the pine flatwoods and cypress swamps of Richloam North. After tackling McKinney Sink Road, Blue Sink Road and Boggy Road, we turn onto Pole Bridge Road looking for the old pole bridge... but all we find are fishermen and a whole lot of swamp.
So, who stole that bridge?
The Baird Unit of Richloam is a mix of pine flatwoods, bottomland hardwoods and cypress swamp. When the rainy season hits, the Little Withlacoochee River rises and spills across compacted dirt roads, creating muddy crossings that will stop a lifted 4x4 cold.
Lucky for us, today the roads are dry, water is low, the roads are smooth and the forest is wide open - perfect conditions for exploring Richloam and chasing down a bridge that apparently doesn't exist anymore.
